What is Springfield?
As most of my short stories have to do with Springfield, it would seem that some explanation is in order. So, here is the basic summary of the Springfield universe. For more in-depth descriptions of individual characters, go visit the Springfield page on Sybil Profile Manager (which can be handily reached through my blogroll on the main page) and find the character you want to read. And, as always, please keep in mind that this is in fact copyrighted material. (For even more Springfield stories, check out my co-author’s blog The Art of Observation, which can also be found in the blogroll.)
Springfield is an utterly ordinary town, all things considered. It has an old-fashioned barber shop/soda fountain, a bank on every corner, and a baseball diamond that draws crowds to the park every Saturday afternoon.
It is kind of large, but not really, and has an utterly disproportionate amount of crime, mostly in the form of over-dressed super villians.
Most of the town excitement centers around the local highschool, Springfield High. Their football team is mediocre, their swim team (and all other teams except girls soccer) is nonexistent, and their mascot is the Terrier. Virtually every Springfield citizen graduates from Springfield High, and those of the older generation are now sending their children there.
Yes, it would seem that Springfield is utterly average.
Except for the fact that a surprisingly significant percentage of its population consists of people with extraordinary powers. Superheroes—and Supervillains— do indeed dwell among us. (In fact, chances are that the people sitting either side of you as you read this are one or the other.)
They also routinely wreck our buildings and other private property in attempts to defend/defeat truth, justice, and the American way.
The only problem is, it turns out that superheroes are people too…and not always extraordinary ones. And even more surprisingly, sometimes the real heroes prove to be those with no powers at all.
